Home Firearms Safety is a four-hour, one-day class that covers the fundamentals of safe gun handling, identification and unloading of different types of firearms, and cleaning and storing firearms and ammunition. No actual shooting is done during this class.

The class is ideal for those who own firearms and have children, or who are anxious about firearms in general and would like to reduce the fear through knowledge and the development of a positive attitude about firearms safety.

Home Firearms Safety is an excellent opportunity for parents and children to participate together to promote the concepts of safety and respect. Course fee is $40.00 per student. Class begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. at the Jefferson County Sportsmen's Association classroom located on the range property.

Basic Pistol Shooting is a two-day, ten-hour course designed for the beginning pistol shooter age 16 and older. Participants will learn safe gun handling, handgun parts and operation, loading and unloading procedures, and methods for safe storage of handguns and ammunition. Students younger than 16 may be accepted under certain circumstances by arrangement with the chief instructor.

Students in Basic Pistol Shooting will acquire fundamental marksmanship skills through a series of actual shooting exercises at the outdoor pistol range under the constant supervision of trained instructors. After the shooting exercises, students will learn how to clean a handgun and discuss the criteria for selecting and purchasing a handgun.

Participants in Basic Pistol Shooting do not need to own a handgun to take the course but arrangements must be made well in advance of the class to be provided with a suitable approved handgun. All firearms will be inspected for safety prior to being fired during the range sessions. No live ammunition will be permitted in the classroom at any time.

Course fee is $70.00 per student. Pre-registration is required for Basic Pistol. Classes begin promptly at 10 a.m. each day at the Jefferson County Sportsmen's Association classroom located on the range property one-eighth of a mile west of Jacob Miller Road on Gun Club Road. Participants may wish to bring a sack lunch each day.

The Basics of Personal Protection in the Home is a two-day, ten-hour course designed to help the student understand the role of a firearm in a home defense situation. Local experts will provide instruction in avoiding criminal attack and techniques for dealing with an intruder in the home. A local attorney will provide information about the laws relating to the use of firearms for self-defense.

Personal Protection covers the basic skills needed by those who keep a pistol in their homes for defense of self, family and protection of property. The course provides a variety of intermediate shooting skills including a refresher of safe gun handling skills, shooting around cover, effective use of concealment, tactical reloading, malfunction clearing and other defense-oriented pistol handling skills. No live ammunition will be permitted in the classroom at any time.

Pre-registration is required and a pre-requisite of the Basic Pistol Shooting course or equivalent experience must be demonstrated by documentation or participation in a pre-course evaluation by the chief instructor.

The Personal Protection course fee is $70.00 per student. Classes begin promptly at 10 a.m. each day. Classes and range operations are conducted at the Jefferson County Sportsmen's Association facilities on Gun Club Road near Port Townsend. Participants may wish to bring a sack lunch each day.
